Ruka is a ski-and-aurora resort about 30 minutes from the town of Kuusamo in north-east Finland. It's easier to reach than many people expect — here are all the routes.

Choose the one that fits your trip.

Fly to Kuusamo Airport (KAO)

The closest airport is Kuusamo (KAO), about 30 minutes from Ruka. Finnair and seasonal charters connect it to Helsinki (about 1h15 flight), and there are seasonal international charters in winter. Transfers and taxis run to Ruka.

Via Helsinki

Almost everyone connects through Helsinki (HEL). Fly into Helsinki from your home country, then take the short domestic hop to Kuusamo. It's the simplest route for most international travellers.

Via Rovaniemi

You can also fly to Rovaniemi (RVN) and drive or transfer to Ruka — about 2 to 2.5 hours by road. This suits travellers combining Rovaniemi and Ruka.

Getting around & transfers

Once here, hotels cluster in Ruka village within walking distance of the slopes. Our tours include hotel pickup, so you don't need a car for aurora hunts and safaris. Ask us about airport transfers when you book.
