When to Book a Ruka Aurora Trip

Timing your booking well saves money and secures the best dates. Ruka's peak weeks sell out, so a little planning goes a long way.

Here's when to book each part of your trip.

Flights

Book flights 3–6 months ahead for the best fares, especially for the busy Christmas–New Year period. Be flexible on dates and connect via Helsinki to Kuusamo.

Hotels

Ruka accommodation for December and school-holiday weeks books up early — reserve 4–6 months ahead for peak dates. Shoulder weeks (late November, January, March) are easier and cheaper.

Tours

Reserve aurora hunts and safaris as soon as your dates are set — small-group tours (max 8) fill quickly in peak season. Booking early also lets you spread activities across several nights for the best aurora odds. See our tours.
