Your route winds through frozen lakebeds, dense boreal forest, and open tundra-like clearings that few people ever see in winter. The exact distance and route varies by snow conditions — every expedition is different.

The tracks we follow exist only in winter, on snow. They lead to remote locations deep in the Kuusamo backcountry that are completely unreachable by road or foot. On a snowmobile, you reach places that feel like discovery.

Safety Briefing and Riding Instruction

Before departure, your guide provides a comprehensive safety and riding briefing covering controls, braking, speed management, and how to handle the terrain. No previous snowmobile experience is required to join this tour.

Expert Guide Throughout

Your guide leads the convoy, knows every track and shortcut, and manages the group's pace and safety. They also know the best spots to stop, cut the engine, and simply listen to a silence so complete it becomes its own sound.

Before You Book

Driving licence: A valid driving licence is required to operate a snowmobile as a solo rider. International licences are accepted. Guests without a licence are welcome as passengers on a two-person snowmobile.

Age for solo riding: Minimum age 18 for driving. Passengers may ride pillion from age 8.

Seizoen: The Snowmobile Expedition runs December through March. Route distance (10–12km) varies depending on snow depth and conditions on the night.

Clothing: Een veiligheidshelm, warm thermopak, winterlaarzen en handschoenen worden verstrekt — draag daaronder gewoon thermische kleding. De temperaturen kunnen −20 °C of lager bereiken — de gevoelstemperatuur door wind bij snelheid versterkt dit aanzienlijk. Warme dranken en snacks worden bij het kampvuur geserveerd.

Conditie: Snowmobiling requires basic upper body control and balance but is accessible to most fitness levels. Inform us of any mobility considerations when booking.

Yes, a valid driving licence is required to operate a snowmobile as the sole rider. Finnish law requires this for all motorised vehicles, including snowmobiles, when driven solo. International licences are fully accepted. If you do not have a driving licence, you are very welcome to join as a passenger on a two-person snowmobile — the experience is equally exhilarating.

Absolutely. The majority of our guests are first-time snowmobile riders. Modern snowmobiles are intuitive to control, and our pre-departure safety briefing covers everything you need to know. Our guide sets a pace that is comfortable for all riders in the group, adjusting the speed to match conditions and experience levels. Many guests are surprised by how naturally it comes to them.

Our snowmobiles are capable of high speeds, but on a group expedition the guide sets a controlled pace suitable for all riders. On open stretches you will experience the thrill of genuine speed; on forest tracks and technical sections the pace slows. The guide manages the convoy to keep it together and safe. Yes — in fact, our snowmobile expedition often ventures into areas with excellent aurora visibility, far from light pollution. If conditions are right, your guide will stop in a suitable spot for aurora viewing during the expedition.
